Monday, July 12, 2010 Standpipe Operations: Having the correct size hose line is imperative! As seen here lengths of 2 ½” hose are being used and will deliver the appropriate flow. You can also see that the nozzle is a smooth-bore which will also enhance your firefighting ability. To many times we see that Fire Departments across the country short change themselves by operating with 1 ¾” hose lines on standpipe operations. You should truly re-evaluate your operation to see if you have the appropriate flow for the fire load you will encounter. Along with the right size hose line, properly storing your hose line is necessary as seen. This technique is covered in depth in our Engine Company Operations Class.
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 QUICK TIP - Forcible Entry is one of our bread and butter operations. Sizing up the door and knowing whether it is an inward or outward swinging door is key. Stay low and position the tool correctly as seen. Teamwork is an intricate part of this vital operation. Understand that conventional F.E. is a dying art so take pride in the understanding of this basic task. This technique is covered in depth in our Advanced Forcible Entry “Get The Door” class.
Saturday, May 22, 2010 Let's learn from each other! Continued education and sharing lessons learned is the key to being a great firefighter! Please share with us any training tips, unusual occurrences, or any other information that you think may help make others become better firefighters. Please submit your ideas with the following information: Name, Rank, and Department, we will then review your information and post it in our Drill Room. We receive a lot of emails so please allow us some time to review and post your info. E-mail us at: training@firetraininggroup.com
Monday, May 17, 2010 FIREFIGHTER REMOVAL: Just using 35 feet of webbing you could enhance your abilities to remove a firefighter. Just take the looped webbing around one leg and then through the opposite shoulder strap and drag. This is a very simple operation to help a brother firefighter. This technique is covered in depth in our Firefighter Safety and Survival class.
